In my last post, I talked about creating an Infolet page, and different ways of accessing them, but in this page I want to expand a little bit more on how you can customize the look, feel and function of an Infolet page. When it comes to Infolets, we have a few different items that can be adjusted
· Header
· Chart Type
· Size
· Data
· Alternate views*
The first few here are simple, if you open any Infolet page you will see a small orange arrow, when you click on this, you will be able to edit the basic attributes.
Here you can see that I have Edited the header of the second tile to a deceptive and creative header.
Secretly it is still Demo Data.. but don’t tell anyone..
The next option is probably obvious, but you can change any data set, to a different chart type, this is similar to how dashboards work. All the same options we had when creating the Infolet page are here again.
Next we can change the size of a tile, the sizes are measured in tile spaces, and it is worth noting, that while you can change the order of tiles, you cannot change where they show up, they will be added left to right, filling the entire row, before dropping down to the next row, you can see an example here
While the second tile is 1x3, there is now way to fill the space to the left or right without adding more tiles. The next thing I want to point out is that as you change the size of a tile, you will see slightly more information, such as the legend that is now fixable in my Not Demo Data tile.
The next configuration section is Data
Selecting Sample will show you the Demo Data that I have used in these posts so far, but you also have the option to select a form as a data source. Like I mentioned in my previous post, it is recommended to have a specific form for the Infolet you are working on, its also worth pointing out that your forms will show up in Alphabetical order based on the form name, so do be counting on a folder structure to guide you through this.
The last section I want to talk about is the tile views, each tile can have 3 views, and these can be flipped through by the user, these different views could provide you with additional details that expand on already existing information. A good example of when this could be used would be a tile showing Total Revenue and Profit. A user might want a little more detail on this, so you could have a second chart showing a break out of costs, and a third chart showing the quarter over quarter change.
All 3 of these can be in a single tile, and with a single click, users can flip between them, the first two flips will be at the size that you specified the tile to be, the third will default to 2x2, but you have the option to specify any size you want. To set these up, on any existing tile, click the small blue arrow at the bottom, this will take you to view 2.
You can drag any content that you would like here in the same way you would create a new tile. To return to the previous view, click the single arrow on the left, or to get to the third view, click on the double arrow in the bottom right,
You can build the third view in the same way, but with this view, remember that you also have the option to change the size how ever you would like. From the third view, click the double arrow to return to the second.
Users will be able to flip through all these views using the same functionality if the tile is included in a home page or viewed as an Infolet page, with the arrow only appearing where additional information is available.
I hope this gives you everything you are looking for regarding Infolets, and I look forward to the next PBCS new feature.
Until then!
-Dan

ReplyDeleteThank you for the content. Can you please explain how to edit an Oracle delivered Infolet? How do I find its Analyses data source?
ReplyDeleteThank you!
If you have access to manage the Infolet, you should be able to se the 'Form' listed under each of the visualizations. you can edit those forms from there.
